In 2009 the USFA decided that they wanted to be a stand alone state based spearfishing organisation and did not wish to be affiliated with the AUF national body. One of the reasons that they gave for seperation was that they did not want to be part of a national insurance and online membership system.
The current President of the USFA is Peter Saunders
John Schulter
I accepted the job of State Chair NSW in August 2006 and some of my aims as State Chair are as follows:
·cementing together our very talented and eager executive committee into a team with true team spirit.
·encouragement towards productive debate: each and every point brought to the table is worth looking at to some degree, at the very least.
·developing a good working relationship with the AUF Federal and State bodies.
·bringing every skindiver in Australia under the umbrella of the AUF to some degree (I think that you must unify in order to multiply).
·developing good, strong strategies in the fight we have all been dragged into.

More - My surname is the German word for “shoulder”. I was born in Austria, and my family moved here when I was 9 months old. They are all still alive and well and I have added a wonderful, supportive wife and two great boys (both great in character and stature) to the clan. We travel as a family, with Ryan diving with me, James our boatie, occasional diver and always helper, and Vivien, who keeps everything together.
I have a business partner, and together we have run an electrical contracting business for over 22 years with over 20 staff.
Some of my characteristics are as follows:
·I can take criticism as it’s dealt out to me (I realize that I am human, and do make mistakes, and that I am not always right).
·I do believe in unification to fight for a cause: I believe that it is possible.
·I have a genuine respect and concern for the environment.
·I treat the fish that I take with the utmost respect and compassion.
·I detest being pushed around by know-it-all minority groups who have nothing to back up what they say.
·My best possible response to any statement, topic, criticism, etc, comes (unfortunately) with a 5 minute delay.
·I listen to people (with the knowledge that at any moment they may come up with the perfect solution to a problem or have a perfect idea).
·I learn quickly and am always eager to learn more (I’ve learnt to write everything down in a hurry – before the short term memory takes a break).
